                                                     Written by…

There are many reasons why authors choose a different name when writing. For example,
when an author becomes world-famous for writing a particular genre, they sometimes
change their name when writing something different. J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry
Potter world, is an example. When she wanted to move away from the world of fantasy to
write crime fiction, she adopted the name Robert Galbraith so she would be able to see
how successful her new novels would be.

In fact, J.K. Rowling doesn't have a middle name starting with K – she used this name, rather
than Joanne Rowling, so people wouldn't know if her books were written by a man or a
woman. Many female writers throughout history have changed their names to have more
success as authors. In 2020, Penguin, a British book publisher, re-published 25 books written
by female authors with male pseudonyms in their Reclaim Her Name project. Each book

had the author's real name on the cover.

However, it's not only women who change their names as authors. Pablo Neruda, a Chilean
poet, was born Ricardo Eliécer Neftali Reyes Basoalto. He decided to become a writer in
his early teens, but his father didn't think he would make any money as a poet. Ricardo
published as Pablo Neruda so his father wouldn't be disappointed. He went on to become
a famous author, continuing to write during his political career in Chile, Mexico and Spain.
He also won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971.

There are other reasons to change your name as well: Stan Lee, the creator of some of our
favorite Marvel superheroes, originally used this name for writing comics, as he planned to
publish more serious work under his real name, Stanley Martin Lieber. And Stephen King,
famously known as a horror author, also wrote horror stories under the name Richard
Bachman. Why? He was writing so many stories and his publishers were worried that
people would think the quality wasn't very good if he could write so much, so quickly.

F Read the text and correct the false sentences.

              1. Robert Galbraith writes fantasy novels.
              2. J.K. Rowling's middle name is Kathleen.
              3. Most of the books in the Reclaim Her Name project are written by men.
              4. Pablo Neruda started writing poetry in his twenties.
              5. Stephen King and Richard Bachman wrote books in different genres.

           G Discuss with a partner.
              • The text mentions that women sometimes find more success writing with a male
pseudonym. What other professions do you think are more difficult for women to succeed
                in? Why?

We can use comparative or superlative forms of adjectives to compare things, places or
people. Look at the chart below and remember the rules:

                    • the comparative form of adjectives

                       • We use the comparative form to compare two people or things.
                        Michael is taller than Marco.
                       • We use the suffix -er with one-syllable adjectives.
                        Planes are faster than buses.
                       • We use more before adjectives that have two or more syllables.

                    • the superlative form of adjectives

                        • We use the superlative form to compare one person or thing with the rest of the
                         group it belongs to.

                         mountains.)

                        • We use the suffix -est with one-syllable adjectives, and also put before the
                         superlative form.

My hometown is the hottest place in the country.

However, one thing I'm not so keen on is that these type of books can often be quite
long. On the one hand, this is great as you really get a feel for the characters and in
the descriptions of the places, clothes and so on. But on the other hand, it means they
tend to be bigger, heavier books than others – which is fine if you have an ebook, but
not so good if, like me, you prefer an old-fashioned paperback!

Where is the Eighth Wonder of the World?

Sorry, a bit of a trick question! You won’t actually be able to visit the eighth wonder of the
world as although many places claim to be it; no location has officially been named. But
you can still visit some of the contenders …

              1.
This incredible Buddhist temple is located in Indonesia. It was built in the eighth and
ninth centuries but was lost for many years after a volcanic explosion buried the temple
in ash. It was rediscovered in 1814 and restored during the 20th century.

              2.
Perhaps not the most beautiful place on the list, this structure is an incredible piece of
engineering. It was built in 1914 and reduced travel times from Europe to the western
United States by 20,000 km, as ships no longer had to sail around South America.

This tower of volcanic magma is located in Sri Lanka. In the 5th century, King Kashyapa
built a castle and city on top of the rock. As the castle was built 200 m above the
forest, it provided the perfect position to see enemies coming. Although today only the
feet are still in one piece, the entrance to this city used to look much more like a lion.

              4.
The statues of 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots and 670 horses were created over 2,000
years ago for Qin Shi Huang, a Chinese emperor. He was scared of death and so he
ordered the statues to be made to protect him in the afterlife. The life-size warriors,
which were buried around the emperor’s tomb, were discovered in the 1970s and no

This week’s post comes from Jamie, who’s excited to share their vacation news with you all!

           Winter Wonderland!

I’m so excited! My dad just told me we’re going to Switzerland in December! Like many
people here in Capetown, I’ve never seen snow in real life so it’ll be incredible to see
the white mountains and pine forests. My sister and I are going to try lots of awesome
activities too – I think I’ll probably be bad at them, but you’ve got to give things a go in
life! We’re going to have skiing and snowboarding lessons – do you think we’ll get a cute
           instructor?

And, being a big kid at heart, I’m going to build a snowman! I’ve always seen American
shows where they go into the garden with an extra scarf and hat – and now I’m going to
           do it too!

It’s going to be a LOOOONG flight though – around 15 hours – but I’ll watch some movies
and then snooze for a while.

Can’t wait to tell you all about my trip in my next post!

A Look at these statements about online medical forums. Do you think posting on online
medical forums is a good idea? Why (not)?
                     a) You don’t know if the person who replies is a medical professional.
                     b) They’re a good starting point if you want more information.
                     c) They can give you a really scary diagnosis or, sometimes even worse, tell you nothing’s
                       wrong.
                     d) The person who replies can’t actually see you, so it’s all based on what you say.
                     e) You can get replies from people who have had similar experiences, who offer support.

Different types of triangles have different names. For example, in a scalene triangle,
each side is a different length, whereas an equilateral triangle has three equal sides.
This also means that in an equilateral triangle, the interior angle is equal too – each is
60º. This is because the interior angles of any triangle always equal 180º. In an isosceles
triangle, two sides are of equal length, which means two of the interior angles will also
               be the same. MUESTRA EDITORIAL

Pythagoras discovered an interesting fact about triangles which have a right angle
(90º). This type of triangle is sometimes called a right triangle. He saw that if you
square the length of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle), it’s equal to
the total of the squares of the other two sides.

                                                   This is his theorem:
                       1
                                                      a2 + b2 = c2
                                                                                   2

C Project Triangles in home furnishings

Content: to plan a quilting project
Learning outcome: calculate the area and perimeter of a triangle
Evidence of learning: a pattern for a quilt, with materials needed
                     For this project:

√ Work in a group of three
√ Draw the design with measurements for the project

Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
D Look at a section of the quilt. Work in your group to answer the questions.
                     1. How many large and small black triangles do you need?
                     2. How many colored triangles do you need?
                     3. All triangles are right triangles and also isosceles. The hypotenuse of one of the large
black triangles is 12 cm. Use Pythagoras’ theorem to calculate the length of the other
sides. You can round to the first decimal point.
                     4. Using your previous calculation, calculate the perimeter of a small triangle.
                     5. The width is the measurement from the right angle to the hypotenuse. In all these
triangles, the width (w) is equal to half the hypotenuse (h). Use the following formula to
calculate the area (A) of a large triangle and a small triangle:
                       A = ½wh

                     6. A quilt is made of 24 blocks identical to this one in a 6x4 pattern. What will be the
dimensions (length / width and area) of the finished quilt?

                  E Group evaluation
                                                                                                            We need to work
                                                               Yes, always
                                                                                                               on this
We drew an easy design to follow.

                      We showed our calculations clearly.

                      We calculated the dimensions of
                      the finished quilt.

                      Everyone participated equally.

                           Latin America’s largest malls

If you’re a fan of shopping, there are a few spots in Latin America which are worth a
visit to see the latest fashions and shop ‘til you drop.

                                           Where to shop in Brazil

Conjunto Nacional is one of the oldest malls in Latin America
and now has around 270 stores for you to shop in. There are
plenty of restaurants and kiosks to have a break in, as well as
hairdressers and banks. It was opened in 1971 and is still one
of the most popular places to go shopping if you’re in Brazil’s
                                           capital city.

                                         Where to shop in Panama

Did you know that the Albrook Mall is the largest shopping
center in the Americas? However, it’s tiny compared to some
others around the world and is currently at number 20 in the
list with the top three biggest in Iran, China and Turkey. But
there are still over 700 stores to spend your money in, and it
provides jobs for around 10,000 people. With a mall this big,
you need to make sure people don’t get lost, so each area is
named after a different animal such as koala, lion, and zebra.

                              Grammar want / would like

To express wants, we use the verbs want and would like. See the structure and the
              examples below:

I want + noun/to V1 I want to buy a pair of sneakers; she wants to buy a new dress.
I would (‘d) like to + V1 I’d like to have some coffee, please.

I would like to eat one more slice of cake.

I’d like and I want have the same meaning, but I’d like is more formal and polite than I
want. We can use I’d like while eating, drinking out, shopping or talking to strangers. Also,
see the negative forms and questions below:

What Do You Do in Your Free Time?

Last week, we asked you to write in and tell us about your hobbies. We’ve picked three of
our top fans to share what they get up to in their free time.

                                 Raushangul, 15 (Karaganda, Kazakhstan)

I absolutely love designing and making my own clothes. It’s really
fun to look for patterns online and then go out to buy the fabric.
Unfortunately, nowadays, it’s probably more expensive than just buying
clothes, but I love finishing a piece and wearing it to school or when I
                                         go out with friends.

But I don’t spend all my time indoors! I’m not that sporty, but I’m
learning to rollerblade at the moment. I fell down last week, but luckily
                                         I didn’t break any bones!

                                    Damiáo, 14 (Teresina, Brazil)

We are a bit of a soccer-crazy nation, and I’ve been kicking a ball
around for as long as I can remember. I’d like to play for a team, but
my parents say at the moment I have to focus on my schoolwork and
that if I join a team, I’ll have to train a lot. That’s OK though, as I meet
up with friends on the weekend and we play five-a-side.

During the week, I tend to listen to music as soon as I finish my
homework. My parents work long hours, so I look after my little sister
in the afternoon. Sometimes we bake cookies, which is fun – I love
                                       double-chocolate-chip!

                                Davide, 14 (Obergoms, Switzerland)

Doing jigsaws really helps me relax and forget about schoolwork,
plus there’s a real sense of satisfaction when you finish a 2,000-piece
puzzle! You can get some really awesome puzzles nowadays – I did
one recently in the shape of a chameleon which I’m going to frame
                                       and hang on my wall.

What else do I do to relax? Well, I have a friend who does parkour,
and he’s going to teach me. It looks pretty difficult, but I’ll give it a
try. And I really like going snowboarding with my dad and my older
sister – but she’s just started college, so we haven’t been for a while.

C Work in a group of four. Imagine you’re
designing a theme park. Prepare a
presentation to share your design with the
class. Here are some questions to think
                     about:
√ Does your amusement park have a theme?

√ How much do tickets cost?
√ How can you keep people happy when
they’re waiting in line for a ride?
√ What food and drink will be available?
√ Is your theme park suitable for people of all
ages? Is it suitable for people with physical
                      disabilities?

Before I asked my classmates, I predicted that the three most popular activities in my
class would be playing soccer, playing video games, and reading. To find out if this is
true, I asked all my classmates to tell me three things they do most often on weekends.
There are 27 students in my class, and they’re all 13 or 14 years old.

The most popular activity, which I hadn’t thought about, was sleeping. 21 of my classmates
said it’s something they often do on weekends. The second most popular, which I was
a little surprised about, was watching YouTube videos. More than half the class said
this was a frequent hobby for them. The third on the list was gaming – in fact, most of
the people who said gaming also tend to watch videos of other gamers doing walk-
                        throughs.

Other popular activities were reading (10) and listening to music (7). I was surprised that
sports was so low on the list – soccer and cycling both got five votes each – but this
may be because it’s wintertime. Then, at the bottom of the list were baking and visiting
family with two votes each. And, at the very end, was cleaning the house. However,
my question was "What three things do you do most weekends?" so I wasn’t asking
                        specifically about hobbies!

A Café with more than just Coffee…

Although many people associate cat cafés with Japan, the first one actually opened in Taipei
back in 1998 and nowadays, you can find them throughout the world.

The first cat café in Europe was opened in 2012 by a Japanese woman, Takako Ishimitsu. She
called the place Café Neko, as neko means cat in Japanese. While many cat cafés charge
customers by the hour, you can spend as long as you like in Café Neko and enjoy delicious juices
              and ice cream.

However, cat cafés are more than just a cozy spot for a drink. Cat Café di Chry, located in
Cagliari, Italy, hopes to inform people about the beauty of these animals. There are many
abandoned cats in the city, and the owners of the café are keen to educate people about why
it’s important to look after their pets, sterilize them and give them a happy home.

If a cat café isn’t strange enough for you, in Kissakahvila Purnauskis in Tampere, Finland, you can
try a very unique coffee while you play with the felines. The question is whether you would like to
drink coffee which is made from poo? Kopi luwak is a type of coffee from Asia which is made
from coffee cherries - a favorite fruit of an animal called a civet. It doesn’t digest the seeds, and
these are collected and used to make coffee.
It seems though that the Japanese are still the biggest fans of a cat café. Do you know how
many there are around the country? More than 150 and one of the best in the capital is Monta.
Not only are there nine different breeds of cat, but you can also get a milkshake or pancakes
              while you’re there.

Whenever I travel, I like to try a local dish, get the recipe and try it myself when I get back
home. Today I want to share a tasty treat I tried in Ohio, but you’ll find it wherever you go
in the US. It’s pecan pie. If you want to try it yourself, read on.

In order to save time, I’m making my pie with ready-made pastry. Before you mix the filling,
bake the pastry base. Beat together butter and sugar and once it’s well-mixed, add in syrup,
eggs and pecans. Pour this into the base and cook for 30 mins. As soon as it’s ready, cut a
slice and serve it with some ice cream, preferably vanilla as this goes well with pecans.

                              A Taste of Something Different

After I read great reviews from other foodies, I recently visited Ella’s Bistro in the city center.
Ella, the owner, is very welcoming, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated, very clean and
bright. Ella makes you feel at home the minute you walk through the door and smiles as she
shows you to your table and brings a glass of water with lemon.

Although I had seen lots of reviews for the place, I didn’t realize it was a vegan restaurant.
The menu isn’t that varied – with a couple of salads and a soup to start, then burgers or
some rice dishes for the main course. However, the food they do, they do incredibly well. The

chef, Andrejz, really knows how to make the most of the ingredients he uses, combining them
perfectly with delicious herbs and spices.

I had the mushroom burger, which was very tasty. The mushrooms were well-cooked, and the
nut cheese gave it a fabulous flavor. Unfortunately, I made a mistake in ordering the sweet
potato fries as I found them too sweet.

I’d definitely recommend a trip to Ella’s Bistro if you’re looking for something light for lunch.
However, I felt it was a little expensive compared to other restaurants in the area – add this
factor to the limited menu, and it won’t become a regular spot for me.

B Read the text. Which ecosystem from A is it describing?

What living systems can you find here?
This is an ecosystem which is difficult to survive in. Because there are strong winds and
very cold temperatures, most plants are small and grow close to the ground. There are
animals which can survive cold temperatures, such as reindeer. However, many animals,
especially birds, migrate, moving south during the long winter and returning in the summer.

What non-living things can you find here?
Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
There’s also very little rain here, similarly to in desert regions, but there can often be ice.
There are also rocks and sometimes even mountains.

What threats are there to this ecosystem?
As global temperatures increase, more leafy vegetation may grow. This will have a
negative impact on animals which eat the lichen which grows on rocks. Another threat
comes from industry as these areas have recently been investigated as sources of
diamonds, oil and gas. To transport these materials, roads are built, which damages the
                       ecosystem and increases pollution.

covered the town of Pompeii in lava and ash.

that the trees are such a dark green they look black; the other is that there are so many
trees, it’s hard to see sunlight.

D Read the text. What places can you see in the pictures?

Unique tourist attractions of the natural world

The church of San Juan Parangaricutiro in Mexico is – obviously – a man-made structure.
However, if you look closely, you can see that the church is buried. This is because in 1943,
a new volcano suddenly erupted and lava covered many of the nearby villages. Fortunately,
only three people died, but many others had to move to new homes. The Parícutin volcano
is now dormant, but many tourists come every year to see the lava-covered church.

Caño Cristales in Colombia is a must-visit site for eco-tourists from June to December. If you
go during these months, you’ll see an incredible variety of colors in the river thanks to an

aquatic plant, macarenia clavigera. There are also waterfalls and walks through the forest
to see the amazing plant life, birds and insects.
If you want to swim with jellyfish, you can take a trip to Jellyfish Lake, located on Eil Malk
Island, in Palau. If you swim in the lake, you can’t wear sunscreen as the chemicals in it can
affect the jellyfish, so you might want to wear a long-sleeved T-shirt and shorts. And don’t
              worry, the jellyfish don’t sting!
Another interesting lake is located on an island off the coast of Western Australia. Scientists
aren’t really sure why Lake Hillier is pink: some think it’s because of microalgae, others say
it’s bacteria in the salt of the lake.

Finally, in the mountains of Gobustan National Park, in Azerbaijan, you can see mud
volcanoes. People believe the mud is medicinal and will often cover themselves with it. If
you’re interested in history, you can also see Roman inscriptions and ancient rock art in the
              area.

Grammar zero conditional / first conditional

                                   conditionals: zero & first conditional.

               a. zero conditional
We use zero conditional when we are sure about the result of a condition, such as
scientific facts, rules and routines. We need two clauses to form all conditionals. The
important thing about the zero conditional is that the condition always has the same
               result. See the following structure:

condition (present simple) the result (present simple)
                                                                                         This is a fact.
If you heat water, it evaporates.

Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
As you see above, both condition and main clauses are formed in the simple present
tense. These two clauses are interchangeable.

If you eat too much fat, you put on weight. = You put on weight if you eat too much
               fat.

               b. conditionals: first conditional
We use the first conditional to talk about a possible result of a condition. In other
words, we are almost certain about a result to happen in the future if the condition
               happens. See the following structure:

condition (present simple) result (will/won’t + v1) The result is possibly
                                                                                      expected after the
If she doesn’t study hard, she will fail the exam. condition. It is not
                                                                                      certain but possible.

As you see above, the condition clause is formed in the simple present tense, and the
main clause is formed in simple future. These two clauses are also interchangeable.
First conditional is used to talk about: possibilities, superstitions, plans and warnings.

She won’t go shopping if she doesn’t have enough money. (Possibility)
If you break a mirror, it will bring you bad luck. (Superstition)
If it is sunny, we will go to the seaside this weekend. (Plan)
If you continue telling lies, no one will believe you again. (Warning)

Note: We can also use modals and imperative in result (main) clauses.

I can fix your laptop if you aren’t good at computers.
Close the window if you feel cold.

Lots of people take up a sport when they’re young – ballet, soccer,
baseball…there are plenty of sports to choose from. For some, sport
stays as a hobby, whereas others decide to take their sport more
seriously and achieve great things in their sporting careers. We asked
Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
our readers to tell us about their sporting role models.

I really admire Gaurika Singh. She was born in
Nepal in 2002 and was the youngest athlete to
compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She
started swimming when she was eight years old
and has participated in professional events since
2014. She’s swum in events around the world and on
her Instagram account (@gaurikasingh) she posts
               videos of her training.

From social media, you can see she’s a really
genuine person as well because she posts photos
and videos with her friends and family.

During the global pandemic in 2020, she wrote an
online diary to share her experiences. She talked
about how much she missed swimming because
during lockdown she couldn’t train. Also, her dad’s a
doctor, and she wrote about how they coped as a
family when he had Covid-19 and how important it
               was to share his story.

Another thing I liked about her diary was a piece
of advice she shared: Live every day to the fullest
               because tomorrow isn’t promised.

I wish I could surf like Aron Alvarez! He’s from Costa Rica,
and he’s been surfing since 2004 when he was three years
old. I love surfing, but I’ve got a long way to go to be very
good at it! I’m the same age now that Aron was when he
started competing in national competitions in Costa Rica –
                                                         unbelievable!

the connection I feel with the sea, nature and the world

a lot of time training, and it would be easy for someone to

In my class, five people said that they’ve been camping. One of them went last weekend
to a campsite in the mountains and said it was fun, but a little cold. The other four went in
the summer and most enjoyed the experience, but one person said they had a problem
with insects and so they didn’t relax as much as they wanted to. Of the other twenty
people, 18 said they’d like to try it, and two said they wouldn’t. One person said they
prefer a comfortable bed, and the other said they don’t enjoy spending time outdoors.
Nobody in the class has played ice hockey, and only a few people want to try it. Some
of them said it looks like a fun sport and others said it looks a bit complicated. A couple
of people have watched matches on TV and said it was quite a long game.
As we live near the coast, most people have tried surfing or bodyboarding. A couple
Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
of people have tried other watersports, like kayaking and rafting. One person has tried
kitesurfing too. She said it was a really great experience, but a little scary. Five people
haven’t tried any watersports: two said they prefer swimming, two people said they prefer
sunbathing when they go to the beach, and the other person said she was scared of
                        going out of her depth.

                        3. How many people in the class have played ice hockey?

                        4. What watersports have people in the class tried?
                        5. What percentage of the class hasn’t tried any watersports?

Who is the father of invention?

Some people say that American 1 , Thomas Edison, did the most to push the
limits of invention. In the early 20 century, he had around 10.000 people working for him,
                                                  th

However, other people believe Leonardo da Vinci is the father of invention. In 15 -century
                                                                                                     th

a scuba diving suit and a 5 helicopter.
But we can go back even further though to the 13 century, when a Muslim engineer, Ismail

Lalita Prasida Sripada Srisai has always loved corn and, one day, she discovered an
interesting use for the cobs – the central part of the vegetable which you can’t eat. After
drilling a hole in the cob, she saw that it acted as a water filter. Unclean water is a problem
for people living in rural India and after developing her idea, has found that her corn cob
filter can take up to 80% of contaminants out of water. In 2015, aged 13, she won Google’s
Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
"Community Impact Award" for her invention.

Alex Deans was 12 years old when he saw a visually impaired person having difficulty
crossing a busy street. He offered to help and, when chatting with the woman, realized
how challenging life can be for the visually impaired. After three years of development, he
invented a belt to help people navigate the streets. With echolocation – similar to how bats
"see" objects through sound – and GPS, his belt gives audio information to users, giving
                      them more confidence when walking.

Kenneth Shinozuka was 15 when he won the Scientific American "Science in Action" award.
He invented a pair of socks for people with Alzheimer’s after watching his grandfather live
with the condition. People with Alzheimer’s can often be confused and move around – even
into the street – during the day and night. When they wear these socks at night, the sensor
contacts a family member if they get up in the night. Shinozuka developed the socks as he
saw his aunt, who looks after his grandfather, didn’t sleep well as she worried he would get
up during the night and leave the house.

                        Grammar phrasal verbs

                                              separable and inseparable phrasal verbs

Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs that have two parts: a verb and one or two
prepositions which create a meaning different from the original verb. The most common
prepositions are: at, down, in, off, out, over and up. Also please see page 135-140 for
                      more phrasal verbs.
They had to put off the game because of the rain. (postpone)
Could you please turn on the lights? (switch on)

Many phrasal verbs take an object. Some of these phrasal verbs are separable (the
verb and the preposition can be separated, putting the object in the middle), while
others are inseparable (the object must come at the end because the verb and the
                      preposition must stay together).
Will you ask Alicia out for dinner? (ask someone to go on a date- separable)

My brother can look after your cat when you are away. (care for - inseparable)

                           1. For separable phrasal verbs, objects that 2. Phrasal verbs that have two paricles/
are personal pronouns (me, you, him, her, prepositions are always inseparable.
us, them) always go between the verb and
particle. She doesn’t get along with her
A: Would you like to take your jacket off? classmates.
                           B: No thanks...

                                              3. There are some phrasal verbs that cannot take an object, so
                                              these are always inseparable.
He always wakes up early. • The electricity went off last night.

C Look at this text from someone who works in tech support. What do the verbs in bold
                     mean in your language?

I’m always amazed at how many calls with the craziest
questions about their devices, and I’m sure one of my
most frequent responses is “Have you tried turning it
off and on again?” Seriously, people phone and then
realize they haven’t plugged in their printer in or ask
why they have no WiFi when they haven’t hooked
the cable up to the router. What’s worse, I sometimes
have to ask people to key in their password, and they
say each letter or number as they type it! It’s great
being able to help people, though, but you have to
Muestra editorial solo para fines didácticos – Prohibida su venta
be patient. I get lots of calls from people ready to
throw their laptop away because it isn’t working, but
we can usually figure out what’s wrong pretty quickly.

B Read the situation and answer the
              questions.

Your teacher set an essay over the weekend.
On Monday, you remember you haven’t
done your homework. On the way out of
the classroom, you see a classmate has left
their essay on their desk and you realize
that if you take it, you can copy it. You can
then throw away your classmate’s essay
              and hand in your own.

              1. Who will be affected if you take the essay?
                 How?
              2. What would be the advantages of taking
                 it?
              3. What would be the disadvantages?
              4. What would be the most ethical thing to
                 do?
